Four Crooks.
The true definition of indie-rock. Meeting in the most stereotypical way possible, at a bar, Four Crooks is a 4 member band with music to be heard. Releasing their debut EP ‘Black Magic’ Four Crooks is discussing the struggles of real life.
‘Black Magic’ a 3 track EP with distorted vocals, electric guitar, feet tapping drums and sick basslines. This 3 track masterpiece has got to be added to your playlist. Recorded and Produced in a farmhouse, Four Crooks were free from distractions to create tracks to speak their truth.
First up is titled track, Black Magic, which gives you dark The Fratellis vibes (tell me I'm wrong)
straight off the bat. Starting strong, Black Magic reels you in with its distorted bass hook (thanks to the talented Mr Barnett). Incorporating simple yet effective drums, classic vocals and supporting guitars. This track tells a story of addiction, to what is up to you. Black Magic describes the hold addiction can have over oneself.
Next up is the absolute banger, ‘Feels Alright’. The lads took a more creative method with this one, playing with various vocal effects. Showing major inspiration from indie idols, The Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys. ‘Feels Alright’ rivals some of my personal favourites from this year.
And last, but sure as hell not least, is ‘Paranoia’. Having a more guitar focus with accompanying bass and drums, Morris provides deeper vocals to match the hard rocker feel. Showing the darker thoughts of life, Four Crooks, use their track to share their struggles.
‘Black Magic’ is a 3 track EP which embodies the meaning the independent music and the way in which music (of all genres) can be a tool in healing.
